Two fishermen from Nyangina beach in Suba North constituency, Homa Bay County, are suspected to have lost their lives on Friday night after the boat they were using during a fishing expedition capsized.
Two other anglers, who were also aboard at the time, narrowly escaped death during the incident which saw a passenger ferry enroute to Mbita from Luanda Kotieno ram into the fishing boat.
The survivors were able to swim close to shore before being rescued by other fishermen who were at the scene.
According to Nyangina Beach Management Unit chairman Joseph Ouma Kaseu, the captain of the ferry allegedly failed to notice the boat since his vision was impaired by darkness.
The bodies of the two fishermen had yet to be recovered by the time of publishing, but efforts to retrieve them are currently being undertaken by officers from the Kenya Coast Guard Services (KCGS).
