Police in Voi, Taita Taveta County, have nabbed three middle-aged men for allegedly operating an illegal distillery in Canaan area.
The trio, a lorry driver and two other men, were found on the premise said to have been rented to them.
Police officers raided the establishment at 3am on Saturday morning, and found a yard where alcohol is packed and labelled before being distributed to consumers in the region.
Taita Taveta County Commandant Patrick Okeri said the raid followed a tip-off about the illegal operation of a distillery without proper structure and licences.
Okeri further noted that the alcoholic drinks already made and packed in the distillery, which were now ready for transportation, had fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps.
The police boss also revealed that the operation led to the seizure of motorcycle parts and gears which had been packed in the lorry ready for transportation to an unknown destination.
He requested locals to be keen on new brands of alcohol being supplied in the region that are unknown in the country as they might be harmful to their health.
