Police in the CBO area of Mwatate, Taita Taveta County are searching for a man trapped in a mining tunnel which collapsed on Saturday night.
In the 11 p.m. incident, police say two miners were inside the tunnel when loose sand crumbled and buried the man while his colleague escaped with minor injuries.
“Efforts to trace him underway as he left the scene to seek treatment,” read a report filed at Mwatate police station.
Police added that poor visibility and loose surface of the mining tunnel marred the rescue operation and it was called off late into the night.
The search resumed early Sunday morning.
