Nakuru: Couple arrested after living with a decomposing body for 3 weeks

Detectives in Nakuru are interrogating a couple that was living in their house with their sister’s decomposing body for three weeks.

Family members told the police that Rosemary Wahu was last seen alive on January 29 this year before her phone went off and her decomposing body was discovered on Wednesday morning in her brother's house.

Residents of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Nakuru East were woken up to the news that the decomposing body of a 60-year-old woman was lying in her brother’s house for three weeks.

David Kinyanjui, his wife and their 2-year-old daughter lived in the same house but remained silent about Rosemary’s death before family members stormed the home on Wednesday seeking answers into her whereabouts.

“Tulipiga simu hapa nje tukakaa hadi 40 minutes, tukaingia bibi akasema tuombe tukaomba ndio akasema twende tuone mwili wa mama yetu,” said a family member Gachoka Kanyone.

The deceased’s son Boniface Mwania added: “Auntie akaomba akaomba akasema kuna mwili imekufa hapa itafufuka…tukashangaa heeeeh.”

The visit by the family members confirmed their worst fears that their mother Wahu was no more. Her decomposing body was lying in one of the bedrooms.

Residents could not bear the stench emanating from the house as the bizarre incident had them perturbed.

“Mwili wake tuliupata ukiwa umedecompose…kichwa ilikuwa skeleton……mwenye alitoa hiyo kitambaa tuliona mwili nikauliza uncle yaani anaweza ishi hapa na mtoto wake wakikula saa hiyo mwili uko hapo? Akasema usijali atafufuka,” explained Mwania.

The couple, Kinyanjui and his wife were rescued from an irate mob by police officers who whisked them away.

The two are being interrogated by detectives from the directorate of criminal investigations in Nakuru East.

“We have launched investigations for now we are interrogating the two persons,” said Nakuru East Sub County Police Commander Mohammed Wako.

The family is seeking answers as to why the couple lived with the decomposing body. An autopsy is set to be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
