Naivasha: 8-month-old baby dies after medics at a Naivasha Hospital disconnected the oxygen machine

A Naivasha hospital is facing public condemnation after the death of an eight-month-old baby, allegedly resulting from a decision by medical personnel to disconnect the child from an oxygen machine during a shift change.

The incident, reported by KTN news, led the family to blame Naivasha Sub County Hospital, sparking protests over the unclear circumstances surrounding the baby's death.

The hospital management struggled to explain to the grieving family and friends.

The baby, initially rushed to the hospital with breathing complications, became the center of a confrontation that required police intervention to quell the disturbance.

In a video capturing the incident, enraged Kenyans voiced their dissatisfaction. Uncle Sam Maina shared that the child was initially placed on oxygen, stabilizing the condition, with the mother even breastfeeding.

However, he alleged that nurses later removed the oxygen ventilator, causing the child to experience complications again and leading to death.

"When she was on oxygen, the doctors who were on duty said their shift is over. One of them disconnected the oxygen supply, and when the other shift came in, they found the baby dead," stated Sam Maina.

He added, "When we come to the hospital for treatment, they shouldn't tell us that the shift has ended. We want action taken for this case. The Government should intervene. If a child is dead, yet maybe could have been saved," expressed the grieving man.

The baby's mother, Beth Njoroge, blamed the nurses for her baby's death, asserting that they ignored her pleas to address the breathing issues.

In agony, the mother recounted the moments leading to her child's death, expressing frustration over the hospital staff's lack of prompt attention and care.
