Nairobi: Roysambu Residents Call For Action As Heaps Of Garbage Cause Eye Sore, Health Concerns

A section of residents living in Roysambu have raised concerns about the unsanitary state of the area, with some fearing it is slowly turning into a 'dumpsite'.

A spot check of Lumumba drive reveals heaps of garbage scattered without proper disposal.

Residents have said the garbage issue is a serious concern, rubbish being removed from sewers and roads, only to make its way back to the sewerage system, causing clogging.

This situation is worse when it rains.

Despite this, roadside vendors continue to carry out their businesses, some selling food and putting residents' health at risk.

Speaking to Wananchi Reporting, a trader by the name Wanjohi said, "The garbage puts off most customers and they don't bother visiting shops to buy items. The situation is worse when the drainage gets clogged and a foul smell rents the air."

A clean up drive was done in September last year in conjunction with the county government, however, soon after, the garbage menace became an issue again.

Residents and business owners have called for a permanent solution in terms of garbage disposal and installation of clean water pipes.
