Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke has been sentenced to 67 years in prison after the High Court refused to overturn his conviction last year.
Mr. Waluke and his business associate, Ms. Grace Wakhungu, filed an appeal against their conviction and sentence in the Sh297 million maize scandal, which was dismissed by Justice Esther Maina.
As a result, Mr. Waluke will now serve 67 years in prison for fraud, while Ms. Wakhungu will serve 69 years.
According to Justice Maina, the sentences were not excessive and were legal.
"The criminal charges were proven beyond a reasonable doubt," the judge said in dismissing the appeal on Thursday.
She also ordered the appellants to pay their fines, which were Sh727 million for Mr. Waluke and Sh707 million for Ms. Wakhungu or face jail time.
