A family is in mourning after their mother, a casual laborer commonly known as a “mama fua,” was found dead in an apartment in Kilimani following a dispute with foreigners.
However, exclusive video footage has emerged showing what transpired before her death. In the video, a man wearing a white shirt is seen on the upper fifth floor holding the woman briefly before letting her go.
She manages to descend to the lower floor after successfully navigating from the fifth floor. Here, three women appear to speak to her, but she continues down to the third floor.
At that point, she is seen conversing with unidentified individuals for a while before the situation appears to deteriorate.
On the third-floor section of the building, the woman seems unable to find a place to hold on to, as the area is enclosed with glass panels.
Exclusive images show the woman dressed in a blue outfit with red and black blotches.
According to the lawyer of the five Sudanese nationals who have since been arrested in connection with the death of Zaitouni Kavaya, a Kibera resident they had hired for laundry work, he shared details of her alleged last moments before her death.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the lawyer explained that his client’s son, the individual who had hired Zaitouni, complained that the money he had left in his pocket had gone missing. This prompted him to call her back to their house, which is when the dispute began.
“The son of the house owner did not find his money in one of his pockets, and therefore, he called her back. She had already left, but he recalled her and asked about the money. Did she find the money or not?” the lawyer said.

The lawyer further claimed that Zaitouni denied taking any money, and when they insisted she accompany them to the police, she allegedly tried to escape and fell from the balcony.
However, Zaitouni’s family has dismissed the lawyer’s claims, insisting that their mother was the victim of foul play.
Her daughter, Faith, said she received a call from Kilimani Police Station, asking her to report there. Upon arrival, she was informed of her mother’s death.
“I was told, ‘Your mother has passed away.’ The only thing we were told is that she fell from a building, but no other details were given. From there, we went to City Mortuary, and that’s where I confirmed it was my mother,” Faith said.
Family Defends Kavaya Against Any Wrongdoing
Faith defended her mother, insisting that she had never stolen from her employers. She pointed out that when she collected her belongings, her handbag contained only Ksh 160.

“When I went to pick up her belongings from the DCI offices, I found Ksh 160 in her purse, together with her dress, slippers, and rubber shoes. Those were the only things my mother had. She had already left work but was called back,” Faith added.
Faith is now demanding justice for her mother.
“I want the truth and justice to prevail because she was everything in our lives. We had no one else to depend on,” she said.
In addition to the family’s calls for justice, friends and relatives of Zaitouni have urged the government to take stronger action against crimes committed by foreign nationals in the country.
A post-mortem conducted at the Nairobi City Mortuary revealed that Zaitouni Kavaya died from multiple injuries caused by heavy blunt force.
