Police in Yatta, Machakos, last night impounded a vehicle loaded with suspected donkey meat.
The vehicle, said to have been heading to a market in Nairobi, was ferrying carcases of 12 donkeys.
The vehicle was intercepted at the Kwavonza trading centre in Katothya village, Kanyonyo sub location in Machakos County.
Police arrested two suspects at a homestead where they also discovered animal (donkey) offal and intestines. A third suspect managed to escape.
“Our officers took action after being tipped off by members of the public. The mastermind escaped, narrowly, but two people are in police custody,” said Yatta OCPB Ben Baraza.
According to the police, the vehicle had donkey meat properly packed for the market in Nairobi.
The suspects will be arraigned at the Kitui court on Monday 22.
