Lydia Wanjiru Reveals How Cigarettes Make Her Sick

Lydia Wanjiru has revealed that the smell of cigarettes now makes her feel physically ill after she quit smoking.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, she shared that even a brief exposure to cigarette smoke triggers nausea and an urge to vomit.

“And the worst thing about being an ex-cigarette smoker is that each time I sniff the smell of a cigarette, I feel like puking, I get so nauseated. I feel like puking,” Lydia said.

She explained that the reaction is so strong that it forces her to remove herself from places where people are smoking.

“So one of the reasons why I am hurrying up to leave is because someone is smoking and the scent keeps coming my way because they are in front of me,” she stated.

Lydia added that outdoor conditions can make it worse, noting, “The sea breeze is like blowing, ama the wind is blowing the scent to my side.”

Her experience highlights a difficult reality for people who stop smoking, where the body reacts sharply to cigarette smoke after quitting. Lydia’s comments show that the smell alone can cause discomfort, even without active smoking. She described the reaction as immediate and intense, making it hard to stay in the same space.

Lydia previously revealed how she quit smoking in August 2025 and how she managed to stay committed to the decision. She explained that quitting was a personal choice and required daily effort. When asked how she stopped smoking, Lydia said, “I just decided that I’ll never smoke again.”

She shared that small changes helped her stick to her decision.

“I made menthol and mint chewing gums your best friend,” she said, explaining how this helped manage cravings. Lydia also spoke about avoiding situations that could tempt her to smoke. I stayed away (cut off) from all the friends and acquaintances that smoked,” she added.

For Lydia, quitting smoking was not only about avoiding cigarettes but also about changing how she thought about the habit.

“It’s more of a mental struggle and small, small everyday decisions,” she explained. She said motivation played a big role in staying smoke-free.

She encouraged people trying to quit to think about the seriousness of their health.
