English Songs Remain Rare in Bongo Flava
For decades, Tanzania’s music industry has largely been built around Swahili-language music.
The genre commonly known as Bongo Flava has gained popularity across East and Central Africa because of its strong use of Swahili storytelling and local cultural references.

While several Tanzanian artists have experimented with English lyrics or bilingual tracks, fully English-language songs have generally struggled to achieve the same commercial success as Swahili hits.

Harmonize is among the few artists who have consistently attempted to blend English with Bongo Flava and Afro-pop sounds.

Over the years, he has collaborated with artists from different countries as part of efforts to expand his audience beyond East Africa.

Whether fans agree with his latest claim or not, the conversation once again highlights his ability to keep audiences talking.

As reactions continue to circulate online, the debate reflects a broader discussion about language, identity, and international reach within Tanzania’s evolving music industry.
