NWHSA, Tana River County Government and Stella Mundi Ltd Sign MOU to Implement the Lucerne Project

National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority has signed an MOU with the Tana River County Government and Stella Mundi properties Ltd to implement the Lucerne Project in Tana River.

The Stella Mundi Lucerne project is envisaged as a flagship climate-resilient agricultural investment that will promote sustainable water resources development, commercial fodder production, flood risk management, food security, employment creation and socio-economic transformation within the County.

This partnership is expected to result in the development of resilient water infrastructure that supports year-round irrigation and commercial lucerne production, enhanced flood risk management, strengthened environmental and social compliance, improved water resource management, increased agricultural productivity, greater private sector investment, employment creation, and improved livelihoods within Tana River County.

The collaboration recognizes that the successful implementation of the County Water projects require a coordinated approach that integrates National technical expertise, County government facilitation and private sector investment. 

 The partnership will also provide a model for integrated public-private collaboration in sustainable water resources development and climate-smart agriculture.

Speaking during the MOU signing ceremony, NWHSA Chief Executive Officer Eng. Julius Mugun hailed the partnership as opportunity to accelerate the livelihoods of the residents in Tana River.

Eng. Mugun reiterated that investments in infrastructure are investments in people and the local communities.

"This collaboration is a step towards propelling Kenya towards the Singaporean dream of becoming a first world country", Eng. Mugun said.

NWHSA Chairperson Dr. Jane Mwikali acknowledged the partnerships efforts in unlocking immense agricultural potential while also creating an avenue for employment opportunities.

"This MOU is a start in creating more partnerships that are fruitful and tangible for the people of Tana River" Dr. Mwikali noted.

Tana River Governor H.E. Dhadho Godhana hailed NWHSA for agreeing to partner with the county government and Stella Mundi to ensure the Lucerne project benefits the local community in Tana River.

Stella Mundi representative, Father Allan Ndung'u noted that Lucerne Fodder has a guaranteed market in the Arabian countries due to its high demand.

"This is a great agricultural investment that is assured to bring huge returns to the local community" Father Ndung'u revealed
