Police in Kitale are pursuing a female suspect who fled after allegedly stabbing a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student to death.
The deceased, 25-year-old Benedict Kiptoo, was a final-year student at KMTC’s Kitale campus, set to graduate soon.
According to reports, he was fatally stabbed on the left side of his neck during an altercation at Kibomet, an area on the outskirts of Kitale.
The suspect, believed to be his girlfriend, has been identified as Mercy Masika, also known by her nickname Nancy Faiza.
According to Dr. Evans Letting, who attempted to save the young man’s life, Benedict succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss.
“We tried all we could to stabilize him, but his condition deteriorated rapidly,” Dr. Letting stated.
The tragic incident has left Benedict's family devastated. His mother, Gladys Kipkorir, has called on security agencies to intensify their efforts to apprehend the suspect.
“We need justice for my son. The authorities must act swiftly,” she urged.
Benedict’s uncle, Japheth Kipkorir, echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Trans Nzoia Deputy Police Commander Selasio Murethi confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are underway.
“We are actively searching for the suspect, and we are confident of bringing her to justice,” Murethi said.
The county’s Health Executive, Sam Ojwang, condemned the incident and urged society to take a firm stance against gender-based violence.
Psychologist Vincent Agolla also weighed in, offering advice to couples on conflict resolution to avoid such tragedies.
The incident comes at a time when global campaigns against gender-based violence are gaining momentum.
