Kisumu: Teacher allegedly murdered by her boyfriend

The lifeless body of a teacher in Kisumu was found in her house at Oboch Market in Nyakach Sub-County on Monday afternoon.

Bridget Ochieng is suspected to have been stabbed to death allegedly by a man purported to be her boyfriend following a domestic row.

Neighbors found Ochieng lying lifeless in a pool of blood.

Upon discovering what he had, a mob descended on the suspect and beat him up senseless using crude weapons before police came to his rescue.

According to Dawin Orina, Upper Nyakach Division Assistant County Commissioner the suspect, Joab Otieno Osogo, was taken to Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment after sustaining serious injuries from the mob beatings.

Orina stated that they are already investigating what might have led to the senseless killing of the teacher.

“We are holding the suspect and will put him to task to reveal what exactly transpired and whether there were other accomplices so that they face the full force of law,” said Orina.

Ochieng was a teacher of Mathematics and Sciences at Obwolo Mixed Secondary School.

The killing of the tutor adds to a long list of femicides reported across the country in the past weeks.

Zablon Awange, Executive Secretary of Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers, Kisumu Branch, condemned the incident.

“We as Kuppet we are saddened by this latest case of Gender Based Violence on teachers. Let the police not leave any stone unturned in bringing the murderers to book,” said Mr Awange.

The body of the deceased was taken to St Joseph’s Nyabondo Mission Hospital Morgue awaiting postmortem.
