There was drama in Kisii on Friday when elderly parents demolished a house belonging to one of their children in a persistent land tussle that has seen the family divided right in the middle.
The incident that happened in Kiamachongo village in Bobasi sub-county saw Arati Momanyi and his wife angrily demolish the mud house after the son allegedly threatened them with death and accused them of witchcraft.
Area Chief Dickson Omaywa said there have been perennial disputes between Mzee Momanyi and his sons over land boundaries, leading to insecurity in the homestead and indeed the village.
The son whose house was destroyed fled the homestead and could not be reached for comment.
Mzee Momanyi said three of his sons have turned against him and now want to kill him so that they can inherit his piece of land. The other two sons are on his side.
"I'm asking the government, is this really okay? Again, when one gets old does it mean they become a witch? Why have they turned against me and their mother? Why do they want to chase me away from my land?" Momanyi questioned.
