Kisii: Man returns home after 34 years

Joseph Andima has returned to his family in Kisii County after 34 years. The move left his wife, Esther, both surprised and overjoyed.

Andima, who departed in the 1990s in search of better opportunities, had lost contact with his family, after leaving behind his wife and four children.

Over the years, Andima started a new family in Baringo County, where he met and settled with another woman, eventually fathering five more children.

For decades, he remained estranged from his first family in Kisii, with no indication that he intended to reconnect..

Andima’s return on Friday October 25, 2024 was as unexpected as his initial departure, but it revealed his desire to make amends.

Esther’s response to his return has struck a deep chord. Rather than expressing anger or resentment, she welcomed Andima back, attributing her decision to her faith and gratitude that he was alive and well.

“It has been a difficult period fending for our kids. Feeding and educating them singlehandedly without my partner was a challenge,” Esther shared.

Esther’s reaction has led many to reflect on the power of forgiveness, with some praising her for her resilience and others questioning if they would make the same choice.

The reunion, covered by national TV, has sparked conversations about forgiveness, family, and resilience among Kenyans as the couple now seeks to rebuild their relationship after decades apart.
