Kirinyaga: Police open fire on 3 suspected gang members, killing 1 and arresting 2

A suspected gangster was fatally shot on Tuesday morning, and two others were arrested with gunshot wounds at Piai Trading Centre in Murinduko Ward, Mwea-East Sub-County, Kirinyaga County.

The three were part of a gang of more than six individuals who were caught breaking into a shop when police officers on patrol intervened.

Mwea-East Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga confirmed the incident, stating that officers from Piai and Itangi stations encountered the gang at around 2 a.m. 

When challenged by the officers, the suspects attempted to flee, prompting the police to open fire. One suspect was killed, and two others were wounded and arrested.

 "We have taken the two injured suspects to the hospital and are continuing the search for the other members of the gang," Nyaanga said.

The police recovered the vehicle the suspects were using, along with several stolen items. Nyaanga added, 

"The two suspects admitted that this is their line of work," the police commander said 

The police commander assured residents that night patrols will continue in all towns within Mwea-East Sub-County until all criminals are apprehended. 

"We have been tracking these individuals. If you are involved in crime, we are coming for you," he warned.

The body of the deceased suspect has been moved to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
