Chaos erupted at a church in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, after a woman claiming to be the wife of a pastor at the church interrupted the wedding where her estranged husband was set to marry another woman.
A grand ceremony had been organized at the church where the pastor was to tie the knot with his new lover when suddenly his wife stormed into the church, accompanied by their five children, as the wedding ceremony was ongoing.
With her five children in tow, Rose halted the ceremony in her attempt to prevent the pastor from proceeding with the wedding.
According to Rose, who identified herself, their marriage took place in 2013 and she insisted that it was still valid as they had not officially divorced.
“We had our wedding in church according to legal standards and it was recognized by the Kerugoya parish, so I am surprised how he can marry another woman without our knowledge,” she explained.
The commotion began when the church's security team tried to thwart Rose’s attempts to stop the wedding while some congregants and guests questioned the timing of her actions.
“We are wondering why they are coming at this time despite having all the time to raise objections during the preparations,” noted a displeased church member.
An angry Rose claimed that her husband abandoned her and their five children and went to live with the new bride whom he was planning to marry.
Previous attempts to resolve the issue had failed, leaving her with no choice but to show up on her estranged husband's big day.
She further accused him of planning to sell the family land after successfully abandoning his family.
“My mother has been struggling to put us through school, and now we suspect he wants to marry another woman so they can sell our land and leave us with nothing,” stated one of the children.
Police from the Wanguru Police Station were called in to control the situation.
