Kirinyaga: Man slips and falls inside a well while searching for a goat

A 50-years-old man has died after slipping into a 75ft well at Mukonyo village in Kirinyaga County.

According to the relatives the incident happened on Monday at around 2am as Joseph Wachira and his cousin James Munene were going home from a local bar.

Munene said they were in the local bar when he told his cousin that the goat he had been looking for had been found dead in his compound. Munene insisted that they pass in his compound so that he can be satisfied.

Munene said after reaching home, he told his cousin to wait as he looks for a torch, but he decided to go straight to where the dead animal was. Unfortunately, he fell into a 75ft well in the compound.

“After I took my torch and could not see him I only heard him crying for help in my 75 fit well which I had covered with rotten woods,' Munene narrated.

Munene raised an alarm, attracting residents and the families. Kirinyaga fire and disaster team were called immediately.

“I wish he waited for me because he did not know the geographical area of my homestead. He slipped and died,” Munene said,

The rescue team led by John Kiama arrived immediately accompanied by police officers. With the help of the locals they retrieved the body after an hour.

“It is sad that Munene has died over a dead goat,” Kiama said as the body was taken to Kerugoya mortuary.
