Kirinyaga county: A 6-year-old boy drowns while swimming in a river with his friends
A family in Gathigiriri village in Mwea, Kirinyaga county is in agony after their six-year-old boy drowned in River Murubara on Friday.
According to boy's grandmother Virginia Wanjiku, the sad incident happened during a swimming expedition that brought together ten children.
“We were away for casual duties when we got information about the incident,” Wanjiku said.
Jane Gathuka, a villager, added that they have been searching for the body since Saturday without any luck.
Another resident, Peter Maina, said that they have since recovered the boy’s clothes. “We are appealing for divers to help us retrieve the body as we continue with the search.”
Residents said this is not the first incident reported in the area. They appealed to parents to be on the lookout for their children during the holiday.
