
Kirinyaga: 2 people sustain serious injuries after a building under construction collapses

Two people sustained serious injuries, seven escaped unhurt after a two-storey building under construction in Ngurubani, Kirinyaga County collapsed on Wednesday evening.
According to police officers from Wanguru station, who arrived immediately an alarm was raised said nine workers were inside the building under construction when the incident happened.
Tebere Ward MCA Peter Karinga said the owner of the building had violated the stipulated rules of construction.
Karinga accused the County government structural engineer of negligence as the incident occured two weeks after another building under construction collapsed at Karia, killing a woman.
“We were expecting them to have stopped this construction,” said the MCA.
Residents also accused county engineers of collecting bribes from construction sites.
The injured persons were rushed to Kimbimbi sub-county hospital.
