Vendors in the new Kaburengu market have raised concerns about their working conditions and safety.
They have faulted the Kakamega County Government for failing to put up street lighting, washrooms and shades to protect them during the sunny and rainy seasons.
The vendors lamented that they have had to resort to taking shelter under the flyover during the rainy season, which they say is dangerous.
“We have no toilets, no shades to protect us from the rains, no lights to protect us when its time to close business at night... the government should put up lights to ensure our safety,” Geoffrry Shivoko, a trader, told Wananchi reporting.
The Kaburengu market is located near the main road from Eldoret towards Webuye and is a busy trading center.
Responding to the vendors’ concerns, the county government said it has allocated funds to construct shades in the market and work should start soon.
