Homabay: Police gun down two suspected robbers

Police on Saturday afternoon gunned down two suspected armed robbers after exchange of fire near Got Kokech village along Homa Bay-Kendu Bay Road. 

The two-armed men were shot dead by officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) who were trailing them from Homa bay Town as they were heading towards Kendu Bay direction using a saloon car.

Upon reaching Got Kokech, area the criminals opened fire to the officers who were trailing them where the officers fired back before the suspect’s car lost control and landed into a ditch.

According to eyewitnesses the occupants of the car and the DCI officers were exchanging fire but the officers overpowered the criminals forcing them to run for safety in a nearby maize plantation.

One of the suspects was shot about 500 meters from where the car had lost control after he went to hide in a maize plantation while the other one was shot dead more than a kilometer away.

Joseph Awino, a witness said one of the suspects tried to hide in a river where he was gunned down. 

Homa Bay Sub County DCI Commander Charlse Koilege says that investigators found documents in the car including cheque books and other bank documents, money, a flat screen TV set, pistol and an AK 47 riffle.

Koilege confirmed the incident, saying the identity of the suspect is still not known, however their fingerprints will be taken on Tuesday and used to identify them.

Bodies the deceased were taken to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
