Homabay: KWS officials recover the body of a grade 2 student in a crocodile's stomach

Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) successfully recovered the body of an eleven-year-old boy who fell victim to a crocodile attack in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay.

The retrieval took place on Friday, February 2, following the dissection of the crocodile by officers along the River Kuja.

The extensive search along the riverbanks had persisted for over 24 hours since the tragic incident occurred on February 1.

The victim, identified as FO, a grade two student, was attacked and killed by a crocodile while fetching water from the river.

His peers, who were with him at the time, witnessed the horrifying incident and raised the alarm.

FO's mother, Janet Auma, who was at home during the incident, responded to the commotion caused by the children. Upon investigation, she learned that her son had been attacked by a crocodile.

Recalling the harrowing moment, Auma stated, "I reached the place and saw my son held between the jaws of the crocodile. The reptile quickly dashed towards the deep side of the river before it dove into the water with the boy."

Desperate for help, Auma pleaded with a man on the other side of the river, but he declined due to the fear of getting attacked in the process.

Neighbours who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and attempted to trace the crocodile, but their efforts proved futile. Consequently, residents had to await the intervention of KWS authorities.
