Grief has engulfed residents of Nyatwere village in Homa Bay County after three members of a family were electrocuted to death at their home on Saturday evening.
Two brothers identified as Elijah Otieno and Isaiah Otieno together with their sister-in-law Laventer Otieno died instantly as a result of electrocution.
According to chief of Kachien North Location Jacob Adienge, Laventer was electrocuted first when she went to remove her clothes from a metallic wire she used for drying clothes.
The clothesline was in contact with the iron sheet from her house, which appeared to have a flowing current as a result of poor power connection.
Adienge said that the woman was struck immediately she touched the metallic clothesline and screamed for help before she died on the spot.
The two brothers who were around during the incident rushed to rescue her, but unfortunately, they were also electrocuted and died instantly when they got into contact with their sister -in law whose body was still stuck on the clothesline.
The administrator said their preliminary investigation has revealed that the power was connected at Laventer’s house by someone from the village who had no knowledge in dealing with electricity.
The bodies were taken to Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital mortuary.
