Eldoret: Woman who killed her husband over domestic wrangles sentenced to 20 years in jail

Liza Koima, a woman accused of killing her husband in over a domestic feud 4 years ago has been jailed for 20 years.

While delivering judgment, Eldoret High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi described the offence as a serious one.

Justice Nyakundi noted in his judgment that even after committing the offence, the accused did not see it fit to reach out to the family of slain Abraham Lagat to ask for forgiveness.

The slain businessman was murdered on August 27, 2020, at his house in Kipkorgot estate. Koima was arrested by police officers as a prime suspect.

In her defence, Koima, a mother of two shocked the court when she confessed to her involvement in the tragic murder of the deceased saying she acted in self-defense.

Koima, recounted how she hit her late husband on the head with a blunt object following a scuffle that ensued in their bedroom on the fateful day.

She explained that it was her late husband who started beating her with a blunt object after a drinking spree. In retaliation, she says she overpowered him by grabbing the weapon from his hand and hitting him on the head in self defense.

She revealed in her defense that the circumstances leading to her action stemmed from nagging demands for an unspecified amount of money the deceased wanted from her to venture into large scale farming in Narok County.

Koima also told Justice Nyakundi that she was afraid of telling her neighbors what had transpired in her house for fear of being lynched over the murder of her slain husband.
