The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced it will embark on a mass water disconnection exercise targeting consumers with outstanding water bills. 

In a notice on Tuesday, October 7, NCWSC said the water disconnection exercise will begin on October 15, 2025.

The company said the move is aimed at recovering overdue arrears and safeguarding the sustainability of water services.

According to NCWSC, the water disconnection will affect all categories of consumers, including ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), county governments, water service providers, commercial entities, and domestic users.

“The Company wishes to inform the general public that a water disconnection exercise will commence on 15th October 2025 as a decisive enforcement measure to recover overdue arrears from all defaulting consumers.

“The exercise will cut across all categories of consumers, including Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), County Governments, Water Service Providers and both Commercial entities and domestic consumers, in a bid to secure revenue recovery and safeguard the sustainability of both bulk and retail water service provision,” read the notice in part.

 NCWSC noted that the disconnection exercise follows repeated notices and reminders to customers who have defaulted.

The company also said it has exhausted all avenues of engagement and now found it necessary to disconnect the water.

NCWSC urged consumers to settle all outstanding bills immediately to avoid disconnection, adding that reconnections will only be processed upon full settlement of outstanding balances.

Further, the company said no institution or consumer will be exempted from the enforcement measures.

“We therefore urge all affected parties to treat this notice with utmost urgency and take immediate corrective action. For clarification and customer support, please contact NCWSC,” the company added.

The notice comes days after NCWSC announced a temporary water supply disruption affecting parts of Nairobi County.

In a notice on Thursday, October 3, NCWSC said the water disruptions were to facilitate the interconnection of the Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete water pipeline at the Gigiri Pumping Station and Reservoir.

The upgrade took place from Friday, October 3, 2025, at 6:00 am to Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 8:00 am.

The disruption affected Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Mamlaka, Valley Road, Kilimani, Kawangware, Dagoretti, Uthiru, Muthua, Ngong Road, Upper Hill, Kibera, and Highrise areas.
