Phillip Kamau Karanja is an award-winning director, and co-founder of Phil-IT Productions which he runs alongside Abel Mutua, an entrepreneur and father of one.

He is the ex-husband of Catherine Kamau aka Cate actress and a former Tahidi high actor.

Phillip Karanja famously known as Phil director started his career back in 2007 as a Tahidi High actor which was aired on Citezen TV and he went by the name Melvin.

 

The TV producer transitioned from acting to producing local shows such as Sue na Johnie, The Real Househelps of Kawangware, Click Click Bang, and A Grand Little Lie.

Some of his other amazing productions include 'Hullabaloo Estate', 'Mother-in-law', and 'Hapa Kule News. 

What may come as a surprise to many is the fact that he never wanted to be an actor or director in the first place he has always wanted to be an astronaut, chef, or musician but learnt that he could be all those if he was an actor.

In an interview with the Standard he once stated ;

"I wanted to be an astronaut, then a chef, then a historian, an archaeologist, a musician despite the fact I cannot sing to save my life, and finally, I discovered I could be all these things by being an actor, and by being a director, I could create all these worlds I had fantasized about."
