Treasury CS John Mbadi Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has expressed interest in contesting for president in the 2032 General Elections.

Speaking during a public meeting on Sunday, February 9, Mbadi refuted claims that he will vie for the 2027 General Elections, emphasising that he is willing to work with President William Ruto until 2032.

While castigating ODM leaders opposed to the broad-based government, Mbadi said that he will be among those who will be at the vanguard of ensuring the party supports President Ruto in the highly anticipated 2027 polls, just like the late party leader, Raila Odinga, would have done.

"We will work with Ruto until 2027, and in 2032, some of us are willing to take over as president of this country. Let those who are saying they want 2027 come out, but I'm personally ready," Mbadi said.

"I know some of us are not ready to take up the challenge, but I'm personally ready to vie for the presidency in 2032, but not 2027," he added.

Mbadi has further called for the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the party's Secretary General, warning that his presence in the party will continue undermining the political vibrancy of ODM.

According to the CS, the party should convene a disciplinary committee against Sifuna and those who have conflicting interests with the party and take appropriate action against them.

Sifuna is part of an ODM camp that is currently opposing the party's collaboration with President William Ruto's administration, a collaboration that is being heavily supported by the ODM's party leader, Oburu Odinga, and other prominent figures such as Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed.

Other leaders who are opposing the party's collaboration with Ruto include Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga, among others.

"A person like Sifuna is not going to remain in ODM because he is already conflicted since he is selling the agenda of someone else; allow him to go," Mbadi said.

"And let nobody lie to people that the SG has some important documents of the party, because we changed a long time ago since we created trustees. He does not even know where the registration certificate of ODM is," he added.

The CS further assured that the ODM party does not have any plans whatsoever to join the opposition camp, which is being steered by political figures such as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, among others.
