The Future of Amapiano: A Chat with Cartoon 47

While some may believe that the Amapiano trend is fading, Amapiano artist Cartoon 47 asserts that he remains the most influential Amapiano artist in Kenya, consistently securing major gigs.

He is confident that Amapiano is here to stay and not going anywhere soon, as evidenced by the numerous opportunities he has to perform at various events.

In an interview with Mpasho's Tomma Kiteto, Cartoon 47 stated that the genre is making significant global strides.

He highlighted how artists like Chris Brown and Jason Derulo have embraced Amapiano, with Chris Brown frequently dancing to Amapiano beats and even releasing an Amapiano remix of his song "Angels."

Similarly, Jason Derulo collaborated with Diamond Platnumz on the hit song "Komasava."

"Currently in Kenya, I am securing most of the major gigs as an Amapiano artist. The high demand for performances at various events clearly indicates that Amapiano is not fading but growing every day. The involvement of global stars like Chris Brown and Jason Derulo shows that Amapiano is making an impact worldwide," he said.

He further explained that Amapiano represents African culture and thus cannot disappear like other genres that rise and fall in popularity. "Amapiano is an international sound that embodies African culture," he stated.

When asked about the future of Amapiano, the Tingisha hitmaker noted that, unlike other genres such as ArbanTone, Genge Tone, or Afro Beats, the genre has consistently maintained its presence and will continue to be a dominant force in the music scene.

"Amapiano is not an emerging sound like ArbanTone or Gengetone. While those genres were gaining recognition, Amapiano has always been a constant," he concluded.

He also noted that only certain artists have the ability to deliver Amapiano effectively.
