Kenyan-Norwegian-based singer Stella Mwangi has been steadily building her legacy in the world of hip hop. She secured a music placement on the Netflix series Selling Tampa, which premiered in 2021.
The U.S. production features an all-black female cast of luxury real estate agents in Tampa. The eight women are "boss babes" in their own right, mixing business and fun as they dominate the region's real estate market.
The show showcases how they work hard, remain competitive, and excel in their careers.
Beyond the drama, the series also features an array of soundtracks, including tracks by Kenyan singer Stella Mwangi.
Three of her songs from the album Eyes Off Me are placed in different episodes. On Spotify, the series lists the Kenyan artist's songs as Queen, Murda Dem, and New Ting. The songs were used in May 2022.
Stella's music has also appeared in several other productions. She expressed humility when she announced that her song "Runnin'" had been featured in Queen Latifah's production The Equalizer.
"If someone had told me back in 1997, when I had U.N.I.T.Y. memorized, that in 2024, @QueenLatifah would be running to my song on TV, I would have said 'yeaaa riiight'..😄 OMG! I am so honored!🙏🏿 Big s/o @kingkairomusic for 🔥beat and @positionmusic for sync 💫#TheEqualizer," she shared on her Instagram account in March of this year.
Her work has been used in films such as American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile and Save the Last Dance 2, as well as in TV series like CSI: NY, Scrubs, and Survival of The Thickest.
A song of hers, 10 Toes, from Badili Akili, was featured in the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix song contest in 2018.
Stella is also a celebrity goodwill ambassador for Rafiki Mwema, a nonprofit organization and child rescue facility in Kenya. In 2018, she performed at the opening and closing parties for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
