A Nairobi woman identifying herself as Annita, and who claims to be the girlfriend of the late former Sailors Gang member and Gengetone artiste Shalkido, has opened up about the pain and confusion she has been battling since his tragic death.
The artiste, who died following a grisly motorbike accident on Sunday, October 6, 2025, was, according to her, not only a close companion but also a source of strength and emotional support.
Speaking tearfully in a video aired by a local YouTuber on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Annita said that since learning of his death, her life has spiralled into despair.
She described sleepless nights filled with tears, adding that the pain has been so unbearable that she has resorted to drinking alcohol to momentarily escape the reality of his absence.
“That accident… only God knows. The tears he shed that day, remembering that he had a child somewhere, will never go unrewarded. The pain and the tears we have cried in these two days since he died have left us sleepless. We cannot eat, we cannot rest. You just sit there, drinking alcohol just to forget for a moment, but once the alcohol wears off, reality hits again,” she narrated.
Annita explained that Shalkido was the person who held her life together, and his sudden death had left her feeling lost and confused.
She claimed that she and the singer had been very close, often spending time together and sharing personal plans for the future. According to her, she had even convinced him to relocate to Mwihoko, where they were living before the accident that claimed his life.
“I am confused. I do not know what to do. Shalkido was the one who supported me, and now it feels like you all decided to take him away from me. I am in pain, I am confused, I do not know what to do. But let everyone know that there is a God who saw everything and knows those who were involved in his death. I am the one who brought him here; I was the one who told him we should move to Mwihoko,” she added.

She further recounted that they had met on Friday, two days before his death, spending the day together and discussing their plans for Sunday morning.
That night, she said, she dreamt of accidents, a sign she now believes foreshadowed the tragedy that followed.
When she woke up on Sunday and realised he was offline, she sensed that something was wrong, only to later receive the devastating news of his accident.
“We were so close that if he told me to do something, I would do it without hesitation. We were really close. There was even a Friday he came to see me, we spent time together and made plans for Sunday morning. He came on Friday at around 3 p.m., and we spent time talking until about 9:30 p.m. Before that Sunday, on Saturday night, I dreamt about accidents. In our culture, when you dream about bad things, you are supposed to pray. I wanted to pray, but I could not. On Sunday morning, when I woke up and noticed he was not calling or texting, I felt uneasy. He was offline. Then I received the news, and I could not believe it, I wondered if there really is a God,” she added.
Ill-fated motorbike
Annita expressed deep anger and disbelief over the incident, saying that Shalkido had previously been involved in another motorbike accident and that she had repeatedly pleaded with him to abandon the risky business.
She disclosed that just two days before his death, he had fallen off the same motorbike, tearing his grey trousers, and had once sustained burns on his leg after another mishap.

“The bike took his life, yet I had asked him to quit the boda boda business so that we could open a different kind of business. I always told him it was risky. Shalkido had been in a previous motorbike accident before this one. In fact, that Friday, he had fallen again, and the grey trousers he was wearing tore. There was another time he carried me and my friend, and the bike’s exhaust burnt his leg. I even asked him if he did not feel pain. I begged him to stop riding, told him if he did not want to sell the bike, he could give it to someone else to work with it and just bring him money.”

The grieving woman said she met Shalkido in 2020 while in college, and their friendship gradually blossomed into a close relationship.
She acknowledged that the artiste had a child with another woman, whom she knows but chose not to discuss in detail, noting only that their bond had remained strong despite it.
“I met him in 2020 while I was in college, and since then, we became close. I know his baby mama, yes, he had one, but it is not me. I know her, but I will not speak about that now,” she added.
