A past video interview between gospel singer Betty Bayo and interviewer Kezia wa Kariuki has resurfaced online, reigniting public discussion about her former relationship with Pastor Victor Kanyari.
In the interview, Betty spoke openly about how they met, their challenges, and the reasons that eventually led to their separation.
How They First Met
Betty recalled that she first met Pastor Kanyari after performing at his church. After the service, he requested to meet her again the following Monday.
During their meeting, they discussed several personal matters, including their struggles in relationships. At the time, Betty was dating another man who, according to her, was disrespectful and dismissive.
Their friendship grew stronger over time, leading to a romantic relationship. Kanyari was later introduced to Betty’s mother, and soon after, the two formalised their union.
Conflict and Separation
In the same interview, Betty said that after some time, their relationship became strained due to frequent misunderstandings. She eventually left their home while pregnant and returned to live with her mother.
About eight months later, her mother-in-law reportedly came to take her back, though the relationship between the two remained uneasy.
Betty narrated that during one of their visits to a construction site, they were on their way back when they got into a minor accident. Kanyari stepped out of the car to check what had happened, leaving Betty inside.

It was then that some bystanders began murmuring, accusing her of being among women who destroy other people’s families.
Fearing the situation could turn chaotic, Betty said she found a chance to escape and went back home.
After returning home, Betty claimed that her mother-in-law accused her of plotting to harm Kanyari. The accusation reportedly deepened the rift between the two families.
Following Betty’s passing, Pastor Kanyari expressed his grief publicly, saying he still loved her deeply. However, close family sources indicated that he was not informed about her illness, citing the difficult history between them.
Online Reaction
After the interview resurfaced, social media users shared mixed opinions.
One wrote, “Reasons why Kanyari wasn’t told anything about her illness,”
Another one commented, “Watu wengi wenye hawajui hii story ndio wanatetea Kanyari.”
Another added,
“Change changes people — maybe he changed after Betty walked away.”
