See Reason Khalif Kairo's Desperate Fundraising Campaign Has Been Halted
On Tuesday, 28th January 2025, car dealer Khalif Kairo was rearrested while attending a case mentioning at Milimani Law Courts.
He had initially been arrested for allegedly failing to deliver cars to his customers. He will be presented at Milimani Law Courts for plea-taking in his 3rd case.
Taking to his X account, Kairo says the public scrutiny and the media highlighting his case have made things worse for him.
“Jana after attending a mention at Milimani law courts, I was re-arrested and held in Parklands police station overnight on another matter. We have tried everything in our ability to resolve this issue amicably and ensure we do deliveries but the negative media publicity and constant police involvement are putting us in deeper waters and severely affecting our ability to operate. All our offices are currently closed. I am currently in Milimani law courts and will be presented for plea-taking shortly.”
Kairo, who has been in the car business for 10 years, says he has never been in trouble with the government.
He also confirmed that a fundraising campaign he had earlier opened had been shut down after hitting Sh 1 million.
“I have had an impressive ten-year run in business with zero criminal cases about cars and thousands of people have successfully bought cars from me. Due to these legal issues, our fundraising campaign was shut down last night after crossing the USD 100,000 mark. All is not lost however, I am directly appealing to my supporters, friends, old clients, and associates to chip in whatever amount they can and give us a fighting chance against the unknown forces that are sabotaging my company. Proceeds can be sent to the @kai_and_karo account below.”
Putting a disclaimer, Kairo added:
“This is not an investment but a donation. Once the dust settles, we will issue a statement and audit trail of how we will utilize the funds raised in rescuing our company.”
Kairo had earlier stated that the reason they have not been able to deliver cars to his clients is due to sabotage by people who want him out of business.
“We are struggling with vehicle deliveries not because we ‘stole’ money but because it's a combination of many factors, including external sabotage, aggressive growth with limited access to capital. It does happen to a lot of startups but I am confident we have found a solution,” he said.
