Scammed: How Kariobangi man lost Sh300K in fake online writing account deal

A Kariobangi man is counting loses after a friend allegedly duped him into purchasing a fake online writing account. Daniel Mitaki claims he paid Nyakundi Omete Sh300,000 in three instalments.

Mitika said Nyakundi told him he had a business idea which he could help him execute. He said the account was dubbed Autotex with special writing features.

Nakundi is alleged to have asked the stated amount be paid in full before giving Mitaki full ownership of the account.

Following the payment, Mitaki said he was given the log-ins but when he opened the account, the features he expected to see were not available. He asked Nyakundi why the account was dormant and the latter told him to be patient until he received at least “10 orders”.

But Mitaki said he received no orders. He said that when he informed Nyakundi about it, he blamed him, saying he had made mistakes. And vowed not to refund the money claiming it was not his fault that the account had failed to work.

Aggrieved, Mitaki sought help from authorities who arrested Nyakundi and arraigned him in court where he denied the allegations. He was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000. The matter will be heard on September 24.
