Kenyan socialite Manzi Wa Mombasa has opened up about her decision to name her son after the late TikToker Brian Chira, who passed away on March 16, 2024.
Chira was laid to rest on March 27, 2024, in Ingitei village, Githunguri, Kiambu County. Speaking in an interview with SPM Buzz, Manzi Wa Mombasa revealed that she wanted to honour Chira’s memory, as he had no children of his own.
"Chira's death shocked us. He did not have a child anywhere," she shared. "It is said that when you die without a child, your name fades away. That is why I decided to give birth and name him Chira."
She disclosed that her child has no father, as she conceived through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), a decision she made because she exclusively dates women.

"I went through IVF because I date women. I have not betrayed the ‘gang.’
Funding the IVF Procedure
Manzi Wa Mombasa explained how she raised money for the IVF procedure, revealing that she sold a piece of land for KSh 600,000 and topped up the remaining amount needed.
"I wanted a baby boy so I could name him Chira. That was my main motivation for going through the process."
Chira’s Grandmother’s Blessing
She also expressed gratitude to Chira’s grandmother, who has embraced her decision and shown love to the newborn.
"She came and blessed the baby and was happy to see him. She even cooked for me and did shopping for me. She loves this child a lot."
Despite being part of the LGBTQ community, Manzi Wa Mombasa stated that she intends to raise her children as straight.
"I will never support my child to be gay. Mtu akiingia kutoka ni ngumu (once you're in, it's hard to get out). I know I can never leave, but I will try my best to raise my kids straight so they can have families and give me grandchildren."
Her Journey to Dating Women
Opening up about her past, Manzi Wa Mombasa revealed that traumatic experiences with men pushed her to date women.

"I had a bad experience—that’s why I hate men. I can never get married. I was gang-raped at 16 and ended up pregnant. I ran away with my firstborn daughter. With my second child, the guy dumped me. After that, I decided to stay away from men. I still have trauma from men."
Cause of Brian Chira’s Death
At the time of his death, Brian Chira’s career was on the rise, but he had openly struggled with depression and alcoholism.
Following Chira’s death, Baba Talisha shared details of what led to his passing. "The pathologist told us his heart, lungs, and kidneys had ruptured. He died due to multiple organ injuries and blunt force trauma," he revealed on TikTok.
