Police officers suspected of stealing ksh 2.2 million to be detained for 4 days as investigations continue

Four Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers suspected of breaking into a school accountant's car and stealing Ksh. 2.2 million in Nairobi's Utawala area have been detained for four days.

The four officers attached to DCI Kasarani and Ruai will remain in custody to allow police to conclude investigations against them.

Sergeant Antony Ndegwa, Corporal Daniel Lekakeny Sunkuli, Police Constables Simon Macharia Maina and Anthony Mwendwa; alongside civilians Young Wakhisi and Lukas Magoiga Chacha are believed to have trailed Rophine International School's accountant from a bank in Utawala on June 3 before breaking into his car and making away with the money.

Detectives say the six trailed the accountant from the bank until he parked the car outside the school.

The accountant is said to have entered into the school with a portion of the money meant for settling salary arrears for casual labourers at the school.

Upon his return to collect the rest, he found the car had already been broken into.

The matter will be mentioned on Friday.
