Ohangla musician Prince Indah to grace the Mzuqa Festival in Kisumu

Prince Indah, born Evans Ochieng Owino on August 9, 1994, has risen from humble beginnings to become a beloved Ohangla artist known for his deep, soul-stirring music.

This December, Indah will captivate audiences at Mzuqa Fest, joining other celebrated artists in a show-stopping event at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium Mambo Leo in Kisumu.

Fans can look forward to hearing his hit songs, including “Adhiambo,” “Osiepe,” and “Gir W Ani,” which have garnered him a devoted following across East Africa.

Growing up in Murumba Village in Siaya County, Indah was the third of five children in a close-knit family.

Raised in Nairobi’s Huruma Flats, he faced numerous challenges after losing both parents early in life.

Indah’s resilience shone through after his mother, the family’s sole breadwinner, passed away while he was still in high school.

To make ends meet, he took up manual labour in the city, enduring hardship with quiet determination. But Indah’s passion for music never wavered.

Despite his struggles, Indah found solace in Ohangla music, frequently visiting nightclubs in Huruma.

Where he watched live performances by Ohangla legends like Emma Jalamo, who also happens to be his paternal uncle.

Emma Jalamo became not just an inspiration but a mentor, inviting Indah to join his Ramogi Ohangla Rhumba (R.O.R) Band.

There, Indah honed his skills as a backup singer, eventually earning his place as a lead performer.

His exceptional talent and dedication led him to release his debut album in 2014, featuring hits like “Cinderella” and “Nyakisumu Pt1.”

In 2016, Indah launched his second album, Tenda Wema, and made the bold decision to establish his band, Malaika Ohangla Rhumba Band (M.O.R.), currently a 20-member ensemble.

Over the years, he has continued to elevate his music, drawing inspiration from Ohangla icons like Benga maestro Osito Kale and gospel artist John Okidi.

Indah’s music resonates with listeners due to his rich vocals and poignant lyrics, which convey messages of love, resilience, and community.

As he prepares for his upcoming performance at Mzuqa Fest, Prince Indah is also busy working on his fourth album, promising fans even more captivating tunes.

For Ohangla enthusiasts, Mzuqa Fest will be an unforgettable celebration, and with Indah’s powerful performances, it’s sure to be a night to remember.
