New KCC re-advertises MD post after CS Oparanya appointment

The New Kenya Co-operative Creameries (New KCC) has re-advertised the position of its Managing Director (MD) as part of efforts to overhaul the dairy sector.

This development follows the recent appointment of Wycliffe Oparanya as Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“We are seeking an excellent leader with an outstanding track record in business leadership to serve as Managing Director,” read the re-advertisement by New KCC in part.

“The ideal candidate should have a proven ability to deliver results, be a visionary and innovative thinker with the capacity to build a dynamic and high-performing management team.”

Oparanya, who has promised major reforms in the cooperative sector, has been vocal about the need for a complete overhaul.

He cited the large amounts of money owed to farmers as a significant issue that needs addressing.

The re-advertisement for the position is seen as a step towards streamlining the sector and ensuring that farmers receive their dues.

New KCC had initially sought a replacement for Nixon Sigey in May, whose tenure at the creamer is drawing to a close.

Despite seeking applications, the company did not shortlist candidates and has now reopened the process.

Sigey’s third term as Managing Director, which began in November 2021, has been marked by controversy.

His appointment was extended for another three years, despite a legal challenge.

His tenure had originally ended in December 2020, but the then Agriculture Cabinet Secretary backdated his renewal to January 2021.

Sigey first took over the position in 2015 and had his mandate renewed in 2018.

During his time at the helm, New KCC expanded its production capacity, adding new facilities in Nyahururu, Dandora, and Eldoret.

However, his third term was challenged in court by David Adema, citing a breach of the six-year term limit.
