Miss Universe akenya Irwnw Mukii Ngendo has resigned.
Through a public statement released on 29th November 2024, she thanked all those who have supported her.
"To all of you who have shown support, thank you. The focus remains to be transformational leadership to empower underserved and marginalized communities. I am excited about what's ahead for Inspire Revolution."
"I stay committed to the impact agenda of community service through my platform, Inspirene Revolution, towards my generation and can therefore only align with environments with values and work ethic that can help in achieving the agenda. After careful consideration, I have decided to send in my termination notice to the Miss Universe Kenya Organization. I will continue working together for the good of our people.
In 2020, Mukii was appointed Miss Grand Kenya and represented her country at the Miss Grand International 2020 pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, where she placed in the Top 20.
On August 16, 2024, Mukii was crowned Miss Universe Kenya 2024 at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, emerging victorious among 15 finalists.
In the first week of the 2024 Miss Universe Pageant, Mukii ranked among the top seven contestants from Africa and Oceania.
Despite this achievement, criticism ensued, particularly concerning her costume choices.
Addressing the feedback in a recent Instagram post, Mukii spoke about her love for Kenyan culture and explained the significance behind one of her outfits, which featured faces of notable athletes to honor the country's prowess in long-distance running.
In her caption, she wrote
"The moment we’ve all been waiting for is here! Miss Universe Kenya @irene_mukii has made us proud by showcasing our global legacy of marathon greatness and our rich running culture through her phenomenal national costume."
She added: "As the finals are upon us, let’s rally behind @irene_mukii and show the world the unbreakable spirit of Kenya. 🌍"
Mukii’s call for unity and pride in Kenya’s global athletic heritage serves as a reminder of the positive impact of cultural representation on an international stage.
