"Marriage is not an achievement,” Phoina Tosha Says

Beauty entrepreneur Phoina Tosha has opened up about her views on marriage, saying it should not be treated as a badge of honour or an achievement.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Alex Mwakideu on Thursday, November 20, 2025, Phoina explained that many modern marriages fail because people rush into them before they are emotionally prepared to become husbands or wives.

According to the beauty mogul, marriage is not mandatory, and it is not meant for everyone.

“Marriage is not a badge of honour; marriage is not an achievement,” Phoina said.

“Ndoa si lazima na si ya kila mtu alafu pia, you have to be that person emotionally, and you have to be ready. Unaona ndoa za siku hizi zinavunjika ni because unapata anaolewa na kumbe they were not ready to be a wife or a husband.”

Phoina warned that getting married because friends are doing it or because of societal expectations is unfair to both partners.

“You just want to be married because my friends are getting married, but are you to be a wife, are you ready to be a husband, until you are ready. If you are doing it for the society or because of what people will say, you are doing an injustice to yourself and to the person you are getting married to,” she added.

Phoina noted that marriage will happen for her when the right time comes, adding that she is not under pressure to settle down simply because society expects it.

“Ndoa itakuja ile siku itakuja na kama haikuji pia tunaendelea na maisha,” she said.

“I know it will happen for me; I can feel it but when I am ready emotionally to give myself like that, I have to be ready and sure.”

She also revealed that as an only child, her family has never pressured her to marry and that when she eventually chooses to do so, it will be for her own happiness.

“I am the only child in my family na hakuna pahali nimeandikiwa. You, Phoina, you need to get married, lakini nikiolewa. I will be happy for myself, but right now I am married to my business,” Phoina disclosed.

In addition, Phoina opened up about her past, revealing that she lived with someone for seven years in her early 20s, an experience she describes as a marriage that did not work.

” I have lived with someone for seven years when I was in my early 20s, one person, I would say it was like a marriage, but it did not work, I lost everything, I left with nothing,” she stated.

“Ilikuwa kama ndoa, I grew as a person, it was good for me. I was grounded, but I lost everything.”

Phoina said she is currently dating but refuted claims of dating businessman Khalif Kairo and asked fans to respect the man she is seeing.

“I’m dating but not Khalif, and let’s respect the person I’m dating,” she said.
