Renowned Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o took to social media to celebrate her father, Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, on his birthday.
The Oscar-winning star, known for her roles in “12 Years a Slave” and “Black Panther,” shared a heartfelt message expressing her love and admiration for her dad.
In her Instagram post, Lupita described her father as a wise, caring, and honorable man. She expressed her gratitude for having such an inspiring figure in her life.
“Sending hugs to my father today, celebrating his birthday!! 🫶🏿 I am lucky to be the daughter of such a wise, caring, and honorable man! 🥰,” she wrote.
Family Matters on ‘Mind Your Own’ Podcast
As a special treat for her fans, Lupita revealed that her parents were the guests on the latest episode of her podcast, “Mind Your Own.” The podcast, which explores personal stories and family history, provided listeners with a deeper understanding of Lupita’s family background.
“As fate would have it: he (and my mum!) are guests on today’s episode of my podcast, #MindYourOwn. Lupita Nyong’o, a celebrated Kenyan-Mexican actress, began her acting journey as a teenager in her home country. Her early career included working behind the scenes on the film “The Constant Gardener.” She later showcased her talents as a director and producer with the albinism documentary “In My Genes” and starred in the TV series “Shuga.”
Nyong’o’s breakthrough came with her acclaimed performance as Patsey in the 2013 film “12 Years a Slave.” This powerful role earned her the prestigious Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014. The following year, she continued her success with roles in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and the Off-Broadway play “Eclipsed.”
Nyong’o further solidified her status as a global star with her prominent role in the blockbuster superhero film “Black Panther” (2018).
Early Life
Born in 1983 in Mexico City, Mexico, Lupita Nyong’o’s parents, Dorothy and Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, were political exiles at the time. The family returned to Kenya during Lupita’s childhood. Her father later served in the Kenyan senate, while her mother took on a leadership role with the Africa Cancer Foundation.
