Renowned Lingala Congolese musician, Koffi Olomide, famously known as “Le Grand Mopao Mokonzi,” has officially announced his much-anticipated return to Kenya.
The legendary artist has invited his fans to join him in large numbers for a sensational event scheduled for December 8-9, 2023.
He will perform at the Kasarani Indoor arena.
In a message on his social media platforms, the maestro behind the hit song “Mwinda” expressed his excitement about reconnecting with Kenyan fans after an absence of several years.
“Mopao is coming to Kenya on the 8-9 December. It will be fire. I will be back in the country after so many years. I missed you; it’s been a long time. I will need to show you how deeply I love you,” he declared.
Koffi Olomide extended a warm invitation to everyone, irrespective of age or gender, to join him for the live show in Nairobi between the 8th and 9th of December.
“Mopao is returning to Kenya, I love them,” he concluded.
While Koffi Olomide has enjoyed immense popularity among Kenyans, a 2016 incident briefly strained his relationship with fans.
Caught on camera kicking one of his female dancers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the popular musician was deportated by the government of Kenya.
He defended his actions, asserting that he was protecting his troupe from an unspecified threat.
However, in 2020, Olomide publicly apologized to Kenyans, acknowledging his error and expressing gratitude to the Kenyan government for welcoming him back.
“I am sincerely sorry for what I did. To everybody who was affected by what I did, I apologize. I want to thank the Kenyan government for endorsing me. I missed Kenya so much, the country of my life,” he stated during his apology.
Koffi Olomide, known for his flamboyant style and dynamic stage presence, rose to prominence in the late ’70s with the release of “Princesse ya Synza,” a trio featuring Papa Wemba and King Kester Emeneya.
