Kenyan artist secures major deal as GLENFIDDICH unveils the Opulent Grand Couronne

Drinking Whisky is a symbol of style, class, and sophistication. It is said and proven, that Fine-suited gentlemen order it at the bar, and professors sip it alongside a cigar and a hearty fire. In addition, drinking whisky and eating are both wonderful pleasures of life, especially if you pair them perfectly.

Glenfiddich, the World’s Most Awarded Single Malt Whisky recently unveiled the Grande Couronne, the newest addition to the Grand Series at an Exclusive food and pairing dinner at the prestigious Hemingway’s Nairobi. Grande Couronne is a 26-Year-Old whisky matured in American and European oak casks at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, before the crowning glory – an extended finish of up to two years in meticulously sourced French Cognac casks – providing a true taste of elegance. Grande Couronne is the crowning glory to your celebrations.

In honour of this new release, Glenfiddich presented a collaboration with contemporary Kenyan artist WiseTwo (born Bhupi Jethwa). The artist reimagines the Grand Couronne’s luxury filigree design with a limited-edition custom sleeve. Reflecting the unexpected marriage of two luxury worlds – a blend of Scottish heritage and French opulence WiseTwo pays tribute to the fusion of ancient art form and modern technique.

WiseTwo’s collaboration forms part of the brand’s Grande Composition, a project that brings life to the Grande Couronne through cross-cultural interpretation. Kenya is one of three African countries to take part in this collaboration alongside 20 artists from around the world including the UK, UAE, Nigeria, South Africa and Germany. WiseTwo highlights, “As you sip the Grande Couronne, I encourage you to visualize this piece and appreciate the craftsmanship behind the whisky and my art. It is a symphony of many cultures, ideas and artists coming together”.

The bottle and packaging of the Grande Couronne are adorned with an ornamental gold filigree, whilst exquisite artwork reminiscent of great renaissance paintings are revealed inside the box. WiseTwo’s piece features ancient hieroglyphs and gold foiling as an interpretation of the regal filigree which adorns the Grande Couronne bottle. While Glenfiddich is now sold in over 180 countries across the world, the brand is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family-owned and is still produced in the same distillery which William Grant and his children hand-built.

Grande Couronne is the epitome of opulence, uncorked at your most grand and meaningful celebrations. Its very name, meaning crown in French is the promise of the excellence in each drop of this precious single malt.
