Catherine Kamau aka Kate actress has taken to her social media page to call for Kenyan women, allies, civil society organizations, and government leaders to join her for a feminist march against femicide.
The march # total shutdown Kenya - again has been sponsored by USIKIMIE, FEMINIST IN KENYA (FIK), ZAMARA.
The feminist march is scheduled to happen on January 27, 2024, at Jevanjee Gardens at 10:00 am. In her recent Instagram post, Kate had said;
"Being a woman should not be a death sentence! As Kenya women including LGB5TQ+women and girls in all our diversities, we are tired of the dehumanization that permeates our existence, the tragically normalized occurrences of femicide, and the pervasive victim-blaming rhetoric surrounding violence against women and intimate partner violence ( IPV).
In feminist solidarity, we, represented by @FIK, 2usikimie, and 2zamara, call on Kenyan women, allies, civil society organizations, and government leaders to join us in a united front on January 27, 2024, at Jevanjee Gardens from 10:00 am... "
The award-winning thespian also declared that she and the sponsors are actively coordinating with feminists in Kisumu and Mombasa to facilitate the march for women in this region.
The mother of two also urged those interested in supporting and collaborating with the march to reach out via the email info@feministinkenya.org.
The announced march comes after the country has witnessed several gruesome murders of ladies with the prime suspects being their lovers.
The deaths of socialite Starlet Wahu, a Machakos university student, and recently the dismembered body of a lady in Roysambu have raised debate on this issue.
Among such debates, femicide has gained popularity all of the victims were women.
