Jaguar Returns To Music After Three Year Hiatus

Jaguar Returns To Music After Three Year Hiatus

Kenyan musician Charles Njagua Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, has made his return to music after a three-year break with a new song titled Safari ya Maisha.

The former Starehe MP released the track on September 29, marking his return to the music scene after his last major project, Unthinkable, a collaboration with Tanzanian singer Lava Lava.

Jaguar announced the release through a message encouraging people going through difficult moments not to give up.
“Life is a journey, not a race. I wrote my new song to share my story, praying it uplifts everyone in a tough season right now. If you need a reminder to keep pushing forward, this one is for you,” he said.

Jaguar opens up about difficult beginnings.

In Safari ya Maisha, Jaguar takes listeners through some of the experiences that shaped his journey in music.

The singer reflects on growing up in difficult circumstances and losing his mother when he was still young.
He sings about the loss and how it could have derailed his dreams, but says he chose to keep moving forward and pursue music.

According to the lyrics, his journey was not an overnight success. He recalls years of trying to find his breakthrough and struggling to produce a hit before eventually establishing himself in the Kenyan music industry.

He looks back at his biggest hits.

Jaguar also uses the song to revisit some of the tracks that helped shape his career.
He references songs such as Kigeugeu, Kioo and Kipepeo, connecting each title to a different lesson from his life and career.

Kigeugeu, he says, taught him to believe, while Kioo represents looking at oneself and Kipepeo reflects another part of his musical journey.
The song follows Jaguar’s rise from difficult beginnings to becoming one of Kenya’s recognised musicians, before he later ventured into politics.

Jaguar’s return to music

Although Jaguar had been away from releasing major music, he made an appearance on stage earlier this year at the Mataha Festival.
His performance came after a lengthy period away from live music, with Jaguar later explaining that a technical problem with the DJ equipment had interrupted his set after claims that he had walked off stage.

Now, with Safari ya Maisha, Jaguar appears to be opening another chapter in his career.
Rather than simply celebrating his return, the singer uses the track to reflect on where he came from and encourage listeners facing their own struggles to keep going.
