Ibraah Drags Harmonize to Arts Council Court Amid Contract Termination Standoffoff

Ibraah Drags Harmonize to Arts Council Court Amid Contract Termination Standoffoff

  • “I thank God that my issue has reached, I have sent a letter to BASATA, and so far everything is going well,” Ibraah said.

Ibraah has confirmed lodging an official complaint to BASATA, Tanzania’s arts council, amid a brewing contract termination dispute between him and his Konde Gang boss, Harmonize.

Speaking with Clouds FM via phone call, the artist who was the only one remaining under the Konde Music Worldwide label said that many things have been going on without people knowing.

According to him, Harmonize demanded that he pay the sum of one billion Tanzanian shillings to terminate his contract with his label.

However, Ibraah said that he could not give that amount of money for what he claimed that even in his musical career, he had never made that amount from music.

Due to the ongoing dispute between the parties, Ibraah confirmed that he was forced to submit his official complaint to BASATA even though some people from within the government had called him asking him not to take that path.

“I thank God that my issue has reached, I have sent a letter to BASATA, and so far everything is going well,” Ibraah said.

Ibraah said that the issue of their separation has reached a serious stage that they cannot continue working together, saying that if the contract cannot be terminated, then he is willing to let Harmonize and his label have whatever they want to keep.

“If the money to terminate the contracts is available, they will terminate but if it fails then they will keep what they consider to be their right, I thank God because some government leaders have called me and advised me that it should not go the way it is and if it reaches the government, it will not be a good path,” Ibraah explained.

Ibraah first opened up about what was going on between him and his boss at the Konde Gang label last weekend when he wrote a long message asking for financial help from fans.

The artiste, in an update, said that the money that fans donated to him in order to raise the one billion needed to break his contract was unfortunately used to treat his mother.

Ibraah said his mother underwent breast surgery, and he was forced to use fans' donations to pay for the medical care.

The woes that befall Ibraah at the label, if true, are like a repeat of what befell Harmonize at the end of 2019 when he wanted to leave the WCB Wasafi label led by Diamond.

At that time, Harmonize claimed to be owed 600 million Tanzanian shillings before terminating his contract, money for which he was forced to apply for loans and put some of his assets as collateral.

The issue of artists struggling when they want to leave the label has been persistent in recent years, with many of them claiming to be owed large sums of money before terminating their contracts.

The dispute between Ibraah and Harmonize is one to monitor closely to see how a verdict is reached, and we hope that the end agreement will bring smiles to the faces of all parties involved.
