Former Radio presenter Anita Raey has shared her battle with alcohol addiction.
Raey says she would drink to cope with different things life threw at her including a failed marriage.
'I am 365 days sober, I am emotional. My entire growing up I coped with drinking. I started drinking early, In class 6 I was drinking a lot.
By the time I got to class 8, I was a heavy drinker, I continued drinking in High school.I was such a heavy drinker, I got married I drank, I left my marriage I drank.
I underwent a major operation in 2019, I drank so much to cope.I do not remember a point in my life where I did not drink.
Anita went on to say with time she started forgetting stuff.
" Last year, I got tired, I couldn't remember most things. I couldn't remember the situations I had.
I had to watch videos and see photos to remember what I had done last night.
On June 2nd I decided I did not want to drink anymore. It's been a year. This year I got sick and I did not drink, I watched someone I was taking care of die and I did not drink.
She further added
I broke up with someone I wanted to be with I did not drink. I lost someone I had known for a long time, I did not drink.
I went to a bar I used to drink for 12 years but I did not drink.'It is a big deal for me.I used to drink a whole bottle of whisky. This is my biggest miracle."
Anita says she was so deep into alcoholism that she couldn't imagine dating a sober guy.
"I used to tell people I could never marry a man who doesn't drink. Nobody told me to quit. No amount of words can explain how I feel. I never went to any rehab. If you want to stop it, the world will help you stop. You can overcome any addiction."In a different video, she shared some other addictions she battled.
"I was addicted to masturbation for a very long time, I was addicted to weed but I quit in 2012. I was addicted to cigarettes I started smoking in form 2 but I stopped in 2018 after 14 years.I struggled with vaping after that."
