Duke of Sussex Prince William clarifies divorce rumours

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry born Henry Charles Albert David, has finally addressed the rumours suggesting that him and his wife, author and former actress, Meghan Markle have separated following an alleged rocky patch in their relationship that could see them headed for a divorce.

Rumour mills have been abuzz with these speculations due to the couple appearing on several functions individually since mid August. They also haven't been to the same function in a long minute as they have been pursuing separate projects.

A stark contrast to how they carried themselves last year and earlier this year.

While attending The New York Times’ 2024 Deal Book Summit the 40-year-old Duke of Sussex finally addressed the rumours noting the constant attention on his marriage is “definitely not a good thing.”

Touching on the publics fascination about every aspect of his life and the separation allegations Prince Harry made fun of the whole ordeal noting that according to tabloids he has been moving houses and getting a divorce almost monthly. Something that has him very amused.

“Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times and we’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?'” The father of 2 stated as he laughed at the absurdity of it all.

He went on to seemingly throw jabs at their trolls sharing how he genuinely pitied them.

"It's hard to keep up with, but that's why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it's like, 'Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,' and then it doesn't happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do," Prince Harry added.

Despite his calm demeanor, Harry revealed he was strongly of the opinion that online rumors can be “dangerous” over time. Voicing he knows this best as a child who grew up in the limelight.

“I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid. I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality. I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people,” the English royalty shared.

Finishing up the 'Spare' author cautioned his interviewer voicing how online trolls were vicious vultures always hunting for anything they could lay their hands on. And due to this, he felt their candid conversation might be taken out of context and misinterpreted.

He went on to apologize to the interviewer, NYT columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin, in case he fell victim to the frenzy due to the interview.

"No doubt this will be spun or twisted somehow against me, and maybe you yourself will be trolled relentlessly. For that, I can only apologize, but you did invite me, so it's not my fault," Prince Harry lightly said as the audience burst out laughing.
