Narcotic drugs worth over Ksh.176.5 million have been destroyed at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) National Forensic Laboratory following the conclusion of a court process.

Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku presided over the exercise where drugs including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, amphetamine, atilafetamine, cannabis and flunitrazepam were set ablaze.

Those present were DCI Deputy Director John Onyango, Allan Mulama from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, the Director of Anti-Narcotics Unit Samuel Laboso, The Director Liason and Corporate Communications John Marete, and officers from Government Chemist among others.

Speaking after the exercise, Mr. Onyango underscored that the destruction symbolized the “unwavering determination to purge the society of the menace of drug trafficking and abuse.”

"Every gram of these drugs destroyed represents lives saved," he explained, as he lauded the collective work of all the stakeholders.

Magistrate Thuku, on her part, acknowledged the good work done by the DCI in safeguarding the nation, highlighting that the aim of such an action was to ensure communities are safe and that society is protected.

The destroyed drugs were recovered by anti-narcotics detectives on separate occasions.
